What is Keeping You from Pushing Onward?
I see many people suffer from inconsistency as the ONE big challenge they face in reaching their next level. I the video above I covered 3 things that prevent us from consistency and what to do about it.
My Life Before Martial Arts
I wasn’t consistent at anything before martial arts which led me to give up at everything I ever set out to do prior to really even starting. It made me feel worthless, weak, sometimes out of control. I felt like a loser, and that was reinforced by a family that ruled with an iron fist.
My grades were down, I had extremely low self-esteem, which led to many fights at school because I was very easy prey for others. So one day, there was a karate teacher at our school. He started a ‘karate club’ at the school I attended, and I remember the first time I talked to him about how I felt and why I deserved to be a student, he simply said to me, “If there’s something in your life that you don’t like, CHANGE IT.”
Martial Arts Empowered Me
I suddenly felt empowered by that statement. It had never occurred to me that it was me. I felt it was my circumstances and therefore I had no control over what I could do about anything, really.
Needless to say, I started training, instantly after my first conversation I felt like a new person. The first class was even better, as I found that I was really good for a person who thought he wasn’t really good at anything. What I found, simply put, was that I just needed to make the decision to change. As hard as it can seem, it’s much easier than staying the course of avoiding responsibility.
Martial arts MADE ME become consistent. Everything about it from the etiquette, to the structured practice, it all had a way of fostering consistency and actually making you uncomfortable when you start to deviate from your routines.
What to Do to Avoid Inconsistency in Your Life
Here are 3 things that Prevent Us from Being Consistent
- Lack of Purpose. Define your purpose.
- Not defining your talent – You aren’t consistent with things you don’t feel confident about.
- Making a commitment on paper and reading it alone twice a day – Morning and Night
